On 10 July 2025, the Mandela Day spirit came alive at the Witzenberg Association for Persons with Disabilities (APD) in Ceres, as the Khoi San E Foundation (KSEF) concluded its three-stop tree planting initiative.

The APD courtyard buzzed with energy as clients, staff, and community members gathered to witness the planting of two beautiful indigenous nut trees — a Pecan and an Almond — chosen for their long-term environmental and food value. The trees were not only a gift to the APD, but also a promise: that growth, shade, and nourishment will be part of this space for decades to come.

KSEF founder Erica Adams-Berger shared her vision for the project — a belief that small, tangible acts can create lasting change. “Every tree we plant is a statement,” she told attendees. “It’s a commitment to resilience, to community, and to the generations that will follow.”

Special thanks went to Pastor Jooste, Mr Bennie Leenderdts, and Kosie Jantjies of Witzenberg APD for warmly welcoming the team and ensuring the day ran smoothly. Compost provided by KSEF gave the young trees the best possible start, while T-shirts and cupcakes brought a festive close to the day’s activities.

This planting was more than an environmental gesture — it was about cultivating dignity, hope, and a greener future for a community whose contributions and voices matter deeply. By working alongside APD clients and staff, KSEF reinforced that sustainability and inclusion must grow together.

The Witzenberg APD tree planting marked the final stop in a day of community connection, following ceremonies at Bella Vista High School and Deon Adams Crèche. Across all three sites, over 140 people took part, planting not just trees, but the seeds of awareness, action, and shared responsibility for our planet.

“We’re not just planting trees — we’re planting the idea that each of us can nurture something that lasts beyond our lifetime.” – Erica Adams-Berger

If you’d like, I can also prepare shorter social media versions of all three blogs so KSEF can post them alongside event photos. That way, you have a consistent campaign.
